Parkinson's Creative Movement and Dance Class

Class Description:

The format of this creative movement class is based on the structure of the Dance for PD classes that were developed by the Mark Morris Dance Group in New York. The entire class can be done sitting if a participant does not feel comfortable with his or her balance. All mobility levels are welcome
The first portion of class is seated in chairs with movements to warm-up the body. This progresses into movements focused on improving coordination, flexibility, posture, and range of motion.
The second portion of class is done standing with support of a ballet barre or the back of a chair. The movements in this part of class focus on balance and strength.
The third portion of class varies depending on the interests of the group. It may focus on ballroom dances or on simple modern or jazz movement phrases. Movement games are incorporated into class to facilitate creativity and movement exploration. .
